Installing Mirrored Closet Doors

Mirrored closet doors are a unique idea to consider when building a new home or remodeling an existing room.  One of the areas of the house that sees a significant amount of use throughout any given day is the bath room.  Each and every family member will normally enter this facility at least once a day if not more.  We enter this location for several reasons one of which is to be able to use the mirror as it is most often one of the only locations in the house where one is present.  Having additional mirrors available in other areas of the house will alleviate and eliminate some of the time each person spends in the bath room getting ready for the day.

Mirrored closet doors can come in a couple of different styles.  Closet doors can be conventional open and close style, bi-fold systems or in a sliding style configuration.  The placement of the mirrors on the door is of the utmost importance.  On a conventional style door the home owner has the option of having the mirror mounted on the outside surface or the inside surface.  On bi-fold or sliding door configurations the client only has the option of mounting them on the outside if they are to effectively use them.

Mirrored Sliding Closet Doors

Home owners that are having mirrored sliding closet doors installed will also need to pay attention to the amount of clearance they have available with the door frame.  Most sliding style door systems recess into the adjoining wall cavity.  In order for a mirror to be installed without interfering with the function of the door there needs to be enough clearance space available to allow the mirror to pass when the door is opened or closed.  If the space is too narrow it could cause the door to snag or stick, or at the very least result in scratches to the surface of the mirror.

Replacing Mirrored Closet Doors

Due to the fragile nature of these systems the home owner can expect to endure replacing mirrored closet doors at some point in time over the history of the house.  Mirror is a very fragile object and can become damaged or broken.  Removing the doors and having the old mirror replaced with new is a fairly simple process.  The home owner can remove and transport the doors themselves or arrange to have a local glass company perform the tasks for them.

Your local glass shop should be the primary resource consulted for having mirrored closet doors installed or repaired and replaced.  The employees at these facilities are very adept at making sure the mirrors selected will fit the dimensions of the door properly and professionally.  This type of work is not something that can or should be done by the inexperienced as mirror is made from glass and the edges pose the potential for causing harm in the form of deep and damaging cuts if handled incorrectly.  The addition of mirrors to a closet door is a worthy consideration for any home owner with a busy family lifestyle.
